Amid the doom and gloom of the pandemic, an Ontario woman has found a way to spread some cheer within her community.
Last week, Crystal Timmings created the Guelph and Area Wine Ninja’s , a women’s only Facebook group, which encourages anonymous gift giving to other women in the city and surrounding area. Timmings told GuelphToday that she realizes a lot of people are struggling right now and it seemed like a way to make some positive change.
After being entered into the private group, members share their address and wine preferences. This information allows other participants to build a gift basket based on their alcohol of choice when they deliver it to their doorstep.
Baskets are usually filled with a bottle of wine and other items from chocolates, bath bombs, inspirational quotes, magazines, makeup and facial masks.
Since it was first established, the group has reached more than 800 members with over 100 gift boxes sent out.
Those who receive a box are asked to take a picture and share it with fellow group members. This also indicates to members who hasn’t yet received a basket.
“Seeing them smile and saying ‘I had a bad day and you turned it all around’ is really amazing,” said Timmings about the many women who are pushing through hard times.
“I get so many comments like ‘thank God for this group. I look forward to it every day. It’s really uplifting.’”
She said that she hopes the group continues to exist as long as it can to ensure people have something to look forward to while they’re living in isolation.
